Site Safety Specialist

ColonialWebb is seeking an experienced construction safety professional to support the safety efforts of our large construction projects in Richmond and the surrounding Central Virginia area.

Overview:

Assist the employees and management of the site in the enforcement of the safety procedures within the Safety and Risk Program to ensure state and federal OSHA compliance in the field and reduce the risk of employee injury.

Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • OSHA 30 certification (minimum)
  • Construction Site Safety Technician Certification (CSST) is a plus
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Three or more years’ experience in the safety field, preferably in a construction setting.
  • Structure and content of the English language. Spanish language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar is a plus.
  • Ability to learn and enforce current corporate policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce current Virginia Occupational Safety & Health regulations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce current Federal Occupational Safety & Health regulations.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and enforce current NFPA Standards applicable to work operations.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and enforce current US Army Corps of Engineers Safety program.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn and enforce safe operations of construction equipment. Train the trainer certifications are a plus.
  • Knowledge of various computer software programs, applications, and ability to use them efficiently.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Coordinate all tasks and functions on site to ensure they are performed safely in accordance with company safety policies and procedures and OSHA standards.
  • Sustain safe operations by conducting site visits/inspections of facilities, work areas and equipment; observing and documentation employee work practices and improving safety preparedness.
  • Identify corrective actions necessary to bring job sites into compliance with applicable codes, laws, regulations, and standards, and explain these measures to others.
  • Inspect the availability, readiness and proper use of required accident prevention procedures, safety and fire prevention equipment, protective clothing and devices, and first aid supplies.
  • Recommend and follow up to verify the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Identify and recommend safety equipment, material and supplies for work operations.
  • Attend and participate in safety committee meetings with sites and general contractors. Serve as a source of information on health and safety issues.
  • Assist in reporting and investigating workers compensation and general liability claims on job sites; act as a liaison with workers’ compensation issues.
  • Conduct and/or assist with job hazard analysis.  
  • Conduct other functions to support the prevention of incidents and accidents and enforce the policies of this company.
  • Conduct safety training as required.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Ability to wear personal protection equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, fall protection, safety shoes, high visibility vest and others as required.
  • Physically capable of working with hands and legs as outlined below. All employees are expected to use good judgment while performing physical job requirements and aware of their own personal physical limitations. Heavy lifting may require the use of material lifting equipment, personnel assistance, or additional help as necessary.
